Five cultivars, one species
Everything here is Psilocybe cubensis. That’s the species behind nearly all cultivated mushrooms in Canada, and the names on the jars are cultivars of it — selected lines, the way strains work in cannabis.
What changes between them is potency and character. What doesn’t change is the compound doing the work.

Why Penis Envy strains are different
The PE lines are the ones people warn each other about, and the warning is earned. They’re denser, slower-growing, and noticeably more potent by weight than a standard cubensis.
A gram of Albino Penis Envy is not a gram of Golden Teacher. If you’re moving from one to the other, cut the dose rather than matching it.
Dosing by weight
Dried mushrooms are measured dry, on a scale. These are the bands people generally work to:

Use a scale. Caps and stems differ enormously in density, so a handful that looks like a gram can be two — and that is the single most common way an evening goes further than planned.
Taking them
Effects start in 20 to 40 minutes on an empty stomach, longer after food. The whole thing runs four to six hours with the peak in the middle two.
The taste is earthy and dry and most people don’t enjoy it. Tea is the usual workaround — steep the ground mushrooms in hot but not boiling water, and drink the lot. It also tends to come on faster that way. If the taste is the barrier, the gummies and chocolate solve it entirely.
Set and setting
Where you are and who you’re with matters more than which cultivar you picked. Somewhere familiar, someone sober nearby, nothing scheduled the next morning.
Don’t mix with alcohol. Cannabis noticeably intensifies the experience, so leave it out of your first few. And if you’re having a genuinely bad week, wait — mushrooms tend to amplify what’s already there.
Storing them
Airtight, dark, dry, and room temperature. Moisture is the enemy: any dampness and they’ll go over. Kept properly, dried mushrooms hold their potency for months.

Which strain should a beginner start with?
Golden Teacher. It’s moderate, the come-up is gentle, and it’s the strain almost everyone is handed first.
How much should I take the first time?
1 to 1.5g of dried, weighed on a scale, on a day with nothing to do afterwards.
Why is Penis Envy stronger?
The PE lines are denser and more potent by weight than standard cubensis. A gram of APE is not equivalent to a gram of Golden Teacher.
How long do they take to work?
20 to 40 minutes on an empty stomach. Longer if you’ve eaten. Tea comes on faster than eating them whole.
How long does it last?
Four to six hours, peaking in the middle two.
Do I really need a scale?
Yes. Density varies so much that eyeballing regularly puts people at double the dose they intended.
How do I make mushroom tea?
Grind them, steep in hot but not boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes, then drink everything including the grounds. It’s easier on the stomach and starts faster.
What is microdosing?
0.1 to 0.3g, well below the level where you’d notice a trip. People take it on a schedule for mood and focus.
Can I mix them with cannabis?
You can, and it intensifies things considerably. Not recommended for your first few times.
How long do dried mushrooms keep?
Months, if they’re airtight, dark and completely dry. Moisture ruins them faster than time does.
